02 / WHERE VERSANT WEST COMES FROM
It all started
with clothes.
I have loved clothes since I was little. All clothes. A passion that comes from my mother, always elegant, who clearly enjoyed “trying out” her outfit ideas on me.
At 15, I was cutting up my clothes (much to my mother’s despair) and transforming them: recutting, re-stitching or customising them with fabric markers. At 20, I registered my first brand, Toxii Star, which dressed my group of dancer friends for our electro nights.
Meanwhile, photography became my profession. Photographing weddings drew me to wedding dresses, to the point of designing them. At 27, Comtesse Betty was born. The adventure lasted two years: I chose to focus on photography, and realised that when it comes to design, my place is in ready-to-wear. I kept sewing, just for myself.
Then it clicked. Sport had become a way of life, and the changes in my body taught me what a difference it makes to wear something you feel good and confident in. It is this dual side, technical and aesthetic, that I wanted to develop.
More than a year of prototypes, sourcing and testing later, the first drop is here.
